CNVB Mission Statement
Clovis North Girls Volleyball provides an opportunity for student-athletes to learn and develop mental, physical, technical, and tactical skills in a safe and positive environment that fosters personal growth and passion for the sport of volleyball. Our overall goal is to teach important life skills athletes will use beyond their sport. This includes developing our athlete’s work ethic beyond their comfort zone, teaching what it means to be unconditionally committed, how to deal with adversity while working with others, and how to compete at a high level with respect, integrity, and confidence. Bronco Girls’ Volleyball athletes take pride in their performance, and not only represent this program, but this school and community as well.
Clovis North Girls Volleyball is a family. As a family we will excel together, suffer together, learn together, grow together, celebrate together and bear all obstacles that may come up, together. We will have a sisters program that will match athletes together from each level, enabling us to establish a connection throughout the entire program. Our teams will support and cheer one another on whenever they are able. We will host fundraisers, events, and activities throughout the season that will give all of our athletes and families the chance to get to know each other better and grow as a family. As we establish our program, we must always remember, “United we stand, divided we fall.” |
CNVB Expectations
We expect a high level of commitment from everyone involved with Clovis North Girls Volleyball. Whether you are an athlete or a parent of a student-athlete, we expect all players and parents to maintain a positive image that reflects highly of the Clovis North Girls Volleyball program.
Player Expectations
We seek athletes who want to put in the time and work necessary to be the best player and person they can be. As a member of Clovis North Girls Volleyball, it is critical to understand that you represent yourself and the program, family, coaches, school, and community at all times.
Academic Expectations
As a female athlete, sports are an important aspect of life and may open other doors for future opportunities. Unfortunately for some, volleyball does not last forever and student-athletes need to have more options available. This is why we expect our athletes to make their academics a priority as well. To be a part of Clovis North Girls Volleyball, athletes are expected to hold a 2.5 GPA. If there comes a time in the semester where the athlete’s GPA falls below a 2.5, she will be required to attend study hall during lunch until her GPA reaches a 2.5. However, homework and school projects are NOT an excuse to miss practice, a match or a tournament. Athletes must be able to manage their time wisely so that they get their schoolwork completed appropriately and are still able to attend practices and matches with quality physical and mental focus. With that being said, in order to hold student-athletes accountable, every other Friday during the season, athletes will be required to turn in progress reports to their head coach that are filled out and signed by their teachers.
Attendance Expectations
Players must attend all functions and we expect that each athlete will be at every practice. Coach Henderson has a golden rule for being on time. If you are 10 minutes early before the scheduled start time, you are considered to be late. All athletes are expected to be dressed and ready 15 minutes prior to the scheduled practice time. The nets and pole pads are expected to be set up along with volleyballs counted prior to the time practice is scheduled to start. If a student-athlete is at school but unable to participate in practice, due to illness or injury, they are expected to still attend practice and support their teammates. Failure to do so will be considered an unexcused absence and will likely affect playing time. Excessive unexcused absences may result in dismissal from the team as determined by the coach. The coach has the right to dismiss the player from the team if a lack of commitment and attendance continues. If a player is going to miss practice, they must inform the coach directly and in advance. Telling a teammate to tell the coach is not an acceptable vehicle of communication and will not be accepted. Doctor’s appointments should be scheduled around the practice and competition schedule. Practice time that is missed must be made up by staying for another practice session to shag balls and help out in any way necessary. Any student-athlete who misses a practice the day before a match/tournament (for any reason) might not start and/or not play at the coach’s discretion. Student-athletes must attend a minimum of 4 class periods on regular schedule days and 2 class periods on block schedule days in order to be eligible to play in the match that evening. If for some reason a student is not able to meet those requirements, please contact Coach Henderson ASAP so she is aware of the situation and the entire team is not jeopardized.

Playing Time Expectations
All players will have equal opportunities to train and play during practice sessions. Playing time is earned and is a privilege. Clovis North Girls Volleyball does NOT guarantee equal playing time during matches or tournaments. Coaches will make playing time decisions based on what they believe will bring success to the team. At NO time will the individual needs of a player be placed above what is ultimately best for the team. Players are expected to EARN a starting position and/or playing time EVERY DAY in practice. Factors that can affect playing time are: attendance at practice, attitude and work ethic, leadership skills, team chemistry, skill level, statistical analysis, and performance during practices and matches. Players on the sideline must encourage and show their support for the players on the court. Bad attitudes and sulking will not be tolerated.
Playing Time Issues
If a player or parent has issues with playing time there is a specific protocol that MUST be followed. Questions and conversations regarding playing time will NEVER take place directly before, during, or after matches, or directly before, during, or after tournaments.
How to Address Issues With Playing Time
1. Athlete and Coach – It is imperative to develop communication between the athletes and their coaches. If an athlete has questions or concerns about their playing time, they must talk to their coach either before or after PRACTICE.
2. Athlete, Parent, and Coach – If the issue is not resolved, a meeting BEFORE or AFTER PRACTICE may be set up between the athlete, parent, and coach. An appropriate time may be arranged.
At no time is it appropriate for a parent to e-mail a coach with complaints, and/or concerns about playing time. If unacceptable e-mails are sent with concerns to playing time and/or coaching decisions, they will go unanswered with the exception of communication to set up a meeting IF protocol steps are followed.
CUSD Rules & Expectations
All players are to abide by the aforementioned rules and those of the CIF and CNEC Athletic-Codes. Student-Athletes may not provide, use, or condone the use of tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, or recreational drugs. Do not go to any parties where there is alcohol. Consequences are severe for breaking these rules… It is not worth it!
Infractions- All infractions will be dealt with in accordance to the athletic procedures and policies. Additional team infractions may be handled in the following manner:
First Infraction (possible options depending on infraction)
· Warning
· Coach/Player conference & contract
· Possible game suspension
· Possible dismissal pending Athletic Review board
Second Infraction
· Coach/Player conference & contract
· Game Suspension
· Possible dismissal pending Athletic Review board
Third Infraction
· Game Suspension
· Dismissal pending Athletic Review board
Fourth Infraction
· Dismissal pending Athletic Review board
Parent Expectations, Responsibilities, & Code of Conduct
· Provide transportation to and from practices, matches, and tournaments if a student-athlete is unable to drive
· Volunteer your time to help make this program run successfully. In order for it to run like a well-oiled machine we need everyone to pitch in and volunteer his or her time. There are plenty of opportunities to help and become involved!
· Celebrate the success of all members of the team, not just your own daughter
· Do not argue with officials, ever, ever, ever!
· Good sportsmanship is vital. Be a good role model for your daughter and demonstrate good sportsmanship at all times
· Support your daughter and the team she made a commitment to, whether you agree with a coach’s decisions and strategies or not. You MUST understand that Clovis North coaches will make choices based on what they believe to be the best interest of the team as a whole and the team’s goals, not with the interests of a single player in mind
· We very much appreciate you entrusting our coaches with your daughter’s development. Once you make the choice to do so, please leave the coaching to our capable coaches and do not provide feedback to your daughter that is potentially conflicting with the training she is receiving from her coaches. This is especially important during matches. Parents are there to support their daughters and celebrate their successes and for a hug after a rough practice or match
· Parents must ally themselves with the coach in teaching their daughter how to cope with the potential frustrations of being a member of a team. Sports provide an excellent opportunity to teach young women about the realities of highly competitive situations. They must be taught how to be a valuable team member regardless of their role, how to make use of both positive and constructive criticism, how to cope with adversity, and how to be a gracious and humble winner
· Aggressive or hostile confrontations between a parent and any coach, official, player, or other parents will NOT be tolerated and may result in the parent losing their privilege to attend team tournaments, games, and related events
· Basic Rule: If you have nothing positive to say, say nothing at all. Discussing negative comments or criticizing Clovis North coaches, administrators, team parents, or players will NOT be permitted. This creates a negative culture that will not be tolerated. If you have questions for a coach, please direct your question to that coach as opposed to discussing the matter with other parents or other players. Please set a good example for your daughter by showing respect to our coaches and program by complying with these rules and decisions. *Reminder: Parents are NEVER to discuss playing time or any concerns regarding strategic decisions with coaches at a tournament, match, or practice
· Please take the time to consider how much time, energy, effort, and dedication your team’s coaches are putting into coaching the team for relatively little compensation. They do it because they are passionate about the sport of volleyball and want to pass that along to help your daughter and her teammates to be the best players and team they can be. Please be appreciative of their efforts and all that they do and realize they deserve your respect and support. Also recognize that all of our coaches are always well intentioned and have the best interests of their teams in mind.
Transportation
Players are expected to travel to all functions on the team bus. There are exceptions to this rule, BUT they MUST be cleared with Coach Herb no later than the day before. Players can ONLY be released to their parents once matches are complete. Arrangements can be made to car pool home from games but a permission slip must be signed and cleared by the coach and Athletic Director prior to the start of the season. *Please reference the Sign Out Form and Permission to Travel with Another Parent Form in your handouts.
